Welcome to Sissay Class

Sissay Class is taught by Mr Hoiles who is supported by Mrs Johnston and Mrs Cash.

Year 6’s Class Explorer is Lemn Sissay. Lemn Sissay is an inspiring poet, writer, broadcaster, and speaker whose life teaches us about resilience, identity, and the importance of kindness and belonging.

Lemn Sissay was born in 1967 in England and experienced many challenges during his childhood. He spent time growing up in care and often felt isolated and misunderstood. Despite these difficulties, he discovered the power of words and poetry to express himself and connect with others. Through his writing and performances, he has shared important messages about hope, equality, and the need for every person to feel valued. Today, he is recognised around the world for his powerful poetry and his work campaigning for children in care and for fairness in society.

We chose Lemn Sissay as our class explorer because he shows us that our experiences can help shape our strength and character. His life teaches us to persevere through challenges, to celebrate who we are, and to use our voices to support others. He inspires us to be reflective learners who listen carefully, think deeply, and show compassion to the people around us. Through his example, we are encouraged to be resilient, respectful, and confident individuals who understand the importance of community, kindness, and believing in ourselves.
