Lancashire School Games
Ansdell represented Fylde in two events, the year 3/4 gymnastics and year 6 orienteering. The gymnasts had a great competition but a few little mistakes kept them out of the medals and they finished 5th overall. The orienteering team were unlucky with the weather, coping with soggy maps and wet clothes. They all finished smiling and came a commendable 10th out of 20 schools. The top pair finishing 12th out of 48. It was a spectacular day and a great experience for the children.
Great week of sport for Ansdell this week:- runners up in the athletics and the year 6 cricket tournaments. See individual write ups.
Year 3/4 Tennis Tournament
Last week 2 teams took part in the inter-school tennis tournament held at AKS. Team 1 came 2nd and qualified for the final and team 2 came a creditable 4th. All children enjoyed participating and played extremely well. Team 1 - Martha Cairns, Abbie Warburton, Shay Menzies, Charlie Kells. Team 2 - Lucy Wane, Lois Moreley, Sammy Curran, William Giddings.
In the final they came up against some fierce opposition and were placed 3rd. Well done to all players and a big thank you to Mrs. Thomas for accompanying the children.
Year 3/4 Golf Tournament
On Monday, June 12th,10 year 4 children entered a tri-golf tournament at Pool Foot Farm, Fleetwood. There were 8 different activities which tested their putting and chipping skills. All children took part in every stage. They had to earn as many points as possible in the time given at each activity. The points were then added together to give a team total. Because of curriculum restraints, the children had not had much practice but did their best and worked well as a team with some particularly impressive performances from Clara, Mia and Robert. A fun day was had by all. We finished in 5th place overall and 2nd in Fylde, narrowly being beaten by Hall Park who only scored 18 points more. A massive well done to Clara, Mia, Louisa, Phoebe, Lara, Robert, Ted, Oscar, Tommy and Daniel.
On Tuesday, June 7th, whilst most of you were still enjoying your half-term break, a number of year 4, 5 and 6 pupils were representing Fylde in the Lancashire dance finals at Park Hall, Charnock Richard. The girls performed a dance to a compilation of 'Singing in the Rain and Umbrella'. They did a fantastic performance and were ranked 2nd out of all the primary schools in Lancashire, coming away with a well deserved silver medal. Congratulations to all who took part and thank you for bringing your children to the event. Miss Martin and myself were very, very proud.
Year 3/4 Hockey Tournament
Last week Ansdell entered 2 teams into the year 3/4 hockey tournament, held at AKS. All children played extremely well and in true sporting spirit. Team 1 won 4 and drew 1 in the group stages but came 2nd as Ribby with Wrea, who also won 4 and drew 1 had scored more goals. They were then narrowly beaten in the semi-final by AKS. Team 2 were also relegated from top spot in the group stage due to goals scored. They reached the final of the 'Plate competition', which was 0-0 at full time and was decided by a golden goal. Unlucky for us, AKS scored first. Brilliant performances by all players. I saw some superb goals by Eve and Martha (one at completely full stretch on her front). Angus was top goal scorer and Shay, Charlotte and Emily were particularly strong in defence, with good all round performances from Alfie, Eleanor and Ethan. It was fantastic to see so many parents able to attend the event. A big thank you to Mr. Copeland and Mrs. Timmins for helping out on the day.
Last week a group of year 2 pupils attended AKS for a multi-skills tournament. This is what they had to say about the event:-
We went to AKS for a sport competition. We really enjoyed it and we came 3rd out of 7 schools. My favourite game was 'Treasure Hunt' picking up the cones. Joe Tanner
We went to AKS where we had a sports competition and we came 3rd. My favourite activity was throwing the bean-bag over the horse. Emma Lunio.
