Girls' Football Tournament

Last week a year 5/6 girls' football tournament was held at AKS. 22 teams took part, which was a record for this competition. We sent a very young team (years 5 and 4) as no 6s were available. They put in a great performance. After a rather nervy start, they finished 3rd in the group stage and went on to reach the semi-final of the Plate competition. Miss Bradley and myself were amazed by the improvement the girls had made, in both skills and confidence, since September. All girls played well and their team work and support was brilliant to see. Girl of the tournament was Floss, who was super in defence. Anna, as captain, in discussion with the others sorted out the teams, positions and subs for each game and even when she wasn't on the pitch was giving advice and encouragement, a great role model.

Fantastic performance by Ansdell boys in the cup game organised by AFC Fylde. After the disappointment of not being able to play last week due to weather, the boys were really up for it on Thursday. It was a bit of a wobbly start, getting used to the new format of 5 a side and the ball rebounding of the walls but once they got the feel of it, they played really well. We played Ribby with Wrea in the final, a team who had beaten us in the qualifying round, so the boys knew they would have to be at their best. Team work paid off and they came away with the win. They will now go on to represent Fylde in the regional finals in Stockport.

Kids' Cup

Great day at the football tournament held at Fleetwood Town. We were unfortunately knocked out in 1/4 finals with a late goal from Shakespear but all the children played really well and did their best, with the year 6 boys setting a good example. The B team just missed out in qualifying for the plate competition. A miserable day weather-wise but otherwise a good day with a great bunch of kids. Well done Ansdell.

4th Feb 2016

Ansdell A team and B team took part in a football tournament over Wyre & Fylde on January 21st 2016. Ansdell A team came 2nd in the whole tournament not losing a game until the final, narrowly losing on penalties to a school called Brett. Ansdell B team also went through to the knock out games but unfortunately, having to play the A team, they lost in the quarter final.  After they got knocked out and after they had worked so hard all day, they still had the energy to support their fellow class mates in the A team in the final.

Unfortunately we did not win but all of the Ansdell team put one hundred and ten percent effort in and they represented our school really well, so they deserve a big round of applause and Miss Bradley and Mrs Welch who took us there from their own time to help us.
